Default SHIFTLOCK: Broken or Nonexistent?

My truck doesn't have a shiftlock (apply brake to shift from park). I thought most vehicles by 2000 did have this, but then again these trucks were designed in 1993. Do these trucks have a shiftlock or not or is mine broken? Anyone out there have to hit the brake to shift from park?

your not talking about manuels are you, if not...

im guessing you mean when you start the vehicle you start it then push and hold the brake then put it into drive or reverse, or vise versa for turning the vehicle off.

thats the way mine is so maybe i have a shiftlock
