Aligning timing marks?
Ok, so this is the first time Iv pulled a timing chain, and It appears that Iv missed a step. Is there a way I have to align the dampener before I remove it? Since I will be replacing the chain/gears, do I still need to mark coresponding points on the two gears? I havent pulled the dampener yet, but before I do I want to make sure Im doing it right.
There was a how to on pavementsucks.com. Here it is:

the chain isnt here yet, but I cant drive the truck because its just pissing antifreeze, so I figgured I may as well pull it apart now, that I have free time, and when the chain gets here, just bolt it back together.

well to tell you the truth, unless you are going to remove the distributor, dont worry about the dampner, just pull it and line the two dots up with each other. cam, dot on bottom, engine, dot on top, though I may be 180* off on the cam, but again unless you pulling the distb no prob.
