I have a 96 ram 2500 4x4 with a 360. I keep having this problem with my tranny where it shifts great from 1st to 2nd, but 2nd to 3rd it wont shift until I let off the gas. And no I'm not gunning it. Even with slow steady pressure it wont shift until I release the gas and then it shifts hard. Then will drop into overdrive at about 45 mph which makes my truck seriously lag. Anyone have any ideas. I checked the fluid and its full. Thanks.

P.S. Just hit 100,000 miles

Check your throttle valve cable adjustment at the throttle body. Pop off the end of the cable at the throttle body it should line up with the stud.

When was the last time you had a tranny service and had the bands adjusted? I have a '95 2500and had a similar problem with the 1-2 shift. After I changed the tranny filter, adjusted the low-reverse band, and added 5 quatrs of newATF+4 fluid it now shifts fine.
