ORIGINAL: HankL

Over the last 10 years I have test driven more than 10 Dodge vehicles per year and the large majority of them had speedo/odo's that were reading about 4 to 6% fast.
That's pretty common these days ofmost vehicles. Chrysler says anything within +-5% is normal. Most (90% IMHO) are reading too fast like Hank says

In fairness to Chrysler
they truthfully can say that when the new tire's tread wears all the way down that the speedometer will then read correctly on a nearly bald tire.

Chrysler also truthfully says that they don't want to be sued by customers who got a speeding ticket...so they set the speedo to read higher than true.

But it is also true that the warranty runs out faster
and this has in the past saved Chrysler millions of $

With the new "lifetime warranty" I guess this won't be true.
