Dually shortbed
I seen a mid 90's chevy regular cab shortbox in town that someone had turned into a dually, must have had front and rear dually axles and the fender flares and everything. Man it looked cool, don't think it would be too practical though.
Alot of people pull horse trailers with 1500 pickups. I've seen them pulling 2 3 and 4 horse trailers although I have pulled 4 horses with a 1500 its a little spooky.
I think the question of putting duals on a 1500 isn't a bad Idea if your pulling a 2 or 3 horse trailer. I dont't think you will gain anything as far aspayload but the little extra added stability would be nice. I myself have a 3500 dually not for the extra payload I like them for the stability on the highway pulling a horse trailer. Biggest problem I think you will run into is finding a dually conversion kit for a 1500 unless you go to a machine shop and have one made. then finding dual wheels to fit a 1500 might be a problem too. You would also have to buy the fenders or a flatbed to go on your truck. Sounds like it could get pretty expensive.
One more thing if you have a manual tranny you prolly in good shape but if you have an automatic tranny ina 1500 they won't last long pulling a trailer the 2nd gen automatic transmissions are junk I had 2 of them in 2500 pickups and they sucked pulling a trailer Im guessing the trannys in the 1500 are build lighter??
One guy in this thread said slap a 3500 axle under your pickup and customize the driveline. That would probably work but then u have a 3500 dual wheel on the back and a 1500 single wheel on the front that would look like crap IMO.
