Tailgate up or down?

Tailgate up or down?
So come thursday november 15th, i'll have a 5 hr drive, mostly on highway, back home in my dad's 2500 extended cab, long bed(a boat i know). I ususally drive a grand cherokee, but it decided to crap out on me right before coming down here (school) last time. So my question is...Do you guys get better mileage with the tailgate up....or down? Any concervation I can get is great.

RE: Tailgate up or down?
This theory has been shot dead for quite some time now. Tailgate UP is the best route. IN-FACT, having your tailgate down encourages more air to drag down on your truck, and you actually LOSE more mpg. So leave it up lol. Even with this proven time and time again, idiots are always riding with their tailgates down with an empty bed, and all I can do is just laugh at them.

p/s: I find it funny that you refer to your dad's Extended Cab/long bed truck as a "boat". Me and my brothers have always made fun of our dad's F-150 Extended Cab/Long Bed a boat as well! Good ****. They don't look the prettiest, but my god they are the most useful truck in the world!!

Well, going from a grand cherokee, to this thing, it's a cruise boat. But i LOVE this truck, I wanna try to talk my dad into letting me use it if he doesn't have to.
I would stay around 60, but when you get run off I-81 for going under 70...it's almost not an option, shooot, transfer trucks run hott down that road.
