I looking to put a remote start and unlock my 96 1500. Any advice on brands that are worth the money and how much do they cost?

Personally, I like Crimestopper. I've installed a few of them over the years, and they have a lot of nice options and are very user friendly.
I've also heard people say good things about Viper and Bulldog, but I've never used either one of them before, so I really can't say if they're good or not. I think the Vipers are pretty expensive though.
