Timing Chain Replacement
i have replaced a few because they were noisy and had two that actually had gotten so loose that they jumped timing -bad
yes it should make a difference because it is not going to jump timing - which would be bad...
the stock timing set has nylon coated teeth that wear down after time and therefore creating space between sprocket and chain which makes the chain loose...

when my water pump went out at 130k i went ahead and replace timing chain (loose), front seal (leaking), rear seal (leaking), oil pan gasket (leaking), and oil pump (just because). timing chains do wear out., and its only about 6 more bolts to get it off. and its only about $50. i'd heard about the nylon coating but i was unable it identify any of it. maybe it was done in 01, or maybe i'm just blind.
Has anyone changed their chain to gears? If so, what benefit was it? I kinda think the whine of gears makes an engine sound like it's supercharged, which of course is cool, but I've never had a vehicle that had noisy gears to know if that sound is annoying after a while of driving or not. Anyone have an opinion on this?

I just did mine, theres a big thread on it, as well as a writeup of how to do it on pavementsucks.com

Thanks. I just briefly read through your writeup on the chain. I'll be looking into this a little later when I have more time.

Thanks but I know how to do it. My question is : will it make any difference in the way the motor runs ? I see another thread about symptons from a worn or loose timing chain but all anyone ever talks about is noise and somehow that thread got off on a tangent about oil filters.
