Can I put an automatic tranny from a 2001 2500 in a 96 1500??? Both trucks are 2 x 4.

 

are both trucks diesel? are they both 3/4 ton?

if they are... you are going to have to let me sleep on this...
having a brain fart right now... not sure if 96 still has speed sensor mounted on tailshaft of tranny or converted to part of diff housing yet...
if not both diesel or 3/4 ton... putting a 46RE into a 48RE situation... bad

 

Neither are diesel. The 96 is a 318 with a 46RE. I just found out the 01 is a V10. Both trucks are gas engines and 2 x 4.

The 01 has a main bearing seized in it and the guy is asking $1500 for the truck w/o engine. The engine is out of the truck and he wants $800 for it. I have an 01 that needs a new dash and a 96 that needs a new tranny. I figured that I could take the dashand tranny out of the junk truck and it would be worth the $1500. Not sure if it would be worth it since the tranny doesn't match up. I'm not familiar at all with the V10 trucks. I'd go with diesel before V10.
