There was a recall on the ignition that could result in a fire at high speeds with a heavy electrical draw like the AC/lights/stereo on.

While it may be unrelated, who knows?

If you call the Chrysler Corp. they can tell you if that recall ever was taken care of.

Might be a vaccum problem.

Don't know if this is the same or not, but I had something this is what happen to me after I had my transmission replaced. The mechanic accidentally bent the vaccum line that runs from the front axle back along the exhaust. It touched the hot exhaust and burned a little hole in it. Vacuum no longer worked, so when I turned the heat on, it would only blow in the cab when I was accelerating. Gave the impression that the heater/blower was working sometimes, and not at othertimes. Also, when I was in 4 wheel drive, and shifted back to two wheel, it took several hours for it to come out of four wheel drive (vacuum actuated).

I replaced the burnt vaccum line (under $40), and that fixed both problems. The dealer said that that line connects into the main vaccum port, and when the hole was burnt into it, that upset the vaccum to all things that needed it, in this case, the heater blower paths.

Good luck.

Thanks for the fast responces. I Called the recall place and they said that my truck was built 1 month after that ignition recall so it doesnt apply. Today I will look at all my vacuum hoses.

My truck does the same thing, myne seems to do it more though at highway speeds....I have not yet found out what the problem stems from...I was guessing maybe the trap that lets fresh air in getting stuck somehow...any anput would be great from someone who has had the problem fixed or knows anything else about it!!! Thanx

Mine did the same thing... until it finally gave out completely. I tracked it down to the ignition key. No fooling! If you look at the manual you'll see 2 heavy guage wires (blue and Brown (if memory serves me)) that supply power to various parts of the fuse block. For a quick fix I spliced those two wires together coming back from the key... It's still working that way today.

Hey guys the blower fan and the vacuum hoses are two different problems. If your fan only works at different times and on different speed settings , the vacuum hoses are not to blame. It has got to be something to do with the hot wire or the ground to the blower motor. The ground to the blower completely goes around the resistor on full speed. So probably the hot wire is to blame. Now as far as vacuum is concerned,Loss of vacuum will cause the vents to go from dash to defrost , sometimes it only does it under a load. The most common place to find a vacuum leak is at the cruise servo under the battery. The battery acid leaks out and melts the vacuum hose causing a leak.Another place to look is at the crossmember for 4x4's.Running over rocks or mud will cause the hoses to disconnect.Another place to look is the one way check valve located at the right side of the intake.disconnect it.Try to blow air through it It should only go one way The other way will block as soon as you try to go at it from the other direction.None of this works? Try a new servo, located at the drivers sideright foot area.
