any tips on painting plastic?
So the Geno's Garage dash came in today. Looks like it'll bea good fit. The Mopar mist gray paint came in a week ago.
Are there any tips you all have for painting plastic? The Mopar can says "sand with #400 wet or dry sandpaper to blend surfaces."Is that the paint to plastic surface? Are they maybe referring to an old surface that might have faded. Will it stick better if I do sand it? Idon't mind the sanding work, I justdon't want to ruin the new dash top surface by sanding if I shouldn't. It alsostates nothing about any sort of priming.
Help me out y'all!

If there is nothing wrong with the surface you do not need to sand. The best thing to do is spray with a self-etching primer unless your paint has that ability. Make sure you clean well first making sure not to leave any residue. If you use the primer you do not need to shoot a thick coat just an even one.
Make absolutly sure the surface is clean and free of oils from your fingers or other containination. I've only used SEM to paint plastic dash pieces and that didn't need a primer anddried really fast. I've never sandedany plastic interior pieces: I think that could ruin the plastic and make the repainted area stand out.
