Default !998 1500 fuel pump problem

Hey out there, I broke down the other day on the road. The truck just stopped running and wouldn't start back up. I looked to see if the serpentine belt was alright and it was.Could not hear thefuel pump motor. So, i am assuming it is a fuel pump. It is a '98 1500 5.2 litre two wheel drive automatic with i think a 26 gallon tank. Have any of you tried replacing a fuel pump on one?? What kind of a job is it?? Or maybe it is just a ground wire or something. Anyway, any help would be appreciated.!!

you check for spark, compression, fuel pressure at the rail and if the plenum is okay?
check for power going to the fuel pump and check all fuses and relays.

yes of course i have replaced one, no wait 1,2,8,10.... a million haha
it is not that hard, just try to siphon most of the fuel out of your tank(you dont HAVE TO, but makes it easier to handle.) and then support the tank on a floor jack (or if you have a lift, a tranny jack or other "suitable lifting/support device")
and remove straps, wires, hoses, vacuum, fuel fill etc

or you can remove the truck bed...
its like 6-8 bolts, some wires, fuel filler, etc
depends how you want to do it and the resources you have available.

try to first diagnose the problem beofre throwing parts and alot of time at it
Good Luck!

hey t_bell40ive got almost the same truck as you (mine is 4x4)
now i had this happen to me a cupple years ago, the gauge said i hhas 1/4 tank fuel but it but the pump wouldent work, so i asumed bad pump so towed it home changed the pump and it did the same think so i checked tosee if there was auchually fuel in the tank and there was, as long as i had more than 1/4 tank fuel it would run fine.so i called dodge tosee if maby it was a bad pump i gotand this is what they tole me. the sending unit has a safty feature that prevents the pump from compleatley sucking the tank dry so it dosent suck the crap off the bottem of the tank since the filter is atached to the pump. now that sencer is what went in mine and it is part of the sending unit so changed the sending unit and its worked fine since.
