Default transfer case id

hey all-
my 01 has a 231 hd,as far as all the info tags and options sheets are concerned.though on the transfer case itself, the round id tag says 231 d.
is this the same thing?i checked to make sure the "h" wasnt worn or rubbed off.
also,is there a diff between the corporate 9.25LD and the 9.25 HD?mine has the LD.is this because its a 1500?
thanx

According to my service manual, the only options for the 01 Rams were 231HD, 241LD, and 241HD. So if you have a 231 t-case, it is a 231HD. My 01 2500 has a 241HD.

It's usually just called a 231D. D stand for Dodge. Chevy's had 231C's, Jeeps have 231J's, etc. Unlike the others though, the Dodge version is a wide chain model.
