What size lift/tires on 2nd gen?
Hey all, im brand new here.
Did a little bit of searching but didn't find what i was looking for...
I currently have a Ford Explorer thats lifted on 35's. Ive owned it since I was 16. Ill be graduating college in a year as an engineer and dont think that would be a good truck to go to interview in
. Ive always liked rams and im looking towards purchasing a 97-99 1500 4x4 .
My question is about how much lift i will need to fit 35's or larger. Lol i can't logically put smaller tires on a dodge ram than i had on my X.. that'd be insane.
So how much lift to clear some 35's? 4" suspension?
And how much to clear 37's? 6" suspension?
My friend has a 1500 turbo diesal on 39's.... thats a little "too big" for my taste (and wallet)
Also- how much will those tires dog the 5.9L V8? I'd assume regearing would be in order... (i currently have the 4.0L SOHC V6 with 4.10 gears pushing the 35's on my X, it's not slow by any means- but if i keep it i may go to 4.88's in that)

according to my calculations....if you can fit a 32(285)mine))on a stock suspension,a 4" lift should give you plenty of room for 35's.maybe even a 3" would work.

Do you off road you truck at all? If so, 35's might rub a touch under full articulation. You might want to check over on Pavementsucks.com and double check. There's a lot of lifted 2 Gen Rams over there, and they could give you a definate answer.
If you're going off road with the truck, you'll need at least a 5 inch lift to ensure the 35's won't rub. a 3 inch lift will give you enough room to put 33's and not rub, with hard use. You could put 35's, but they'll rub hard if you're running the truck around in the dirt.
