Default 99 ram 1500 tranny slipping helpppppp!

Ok is there something that ya'll know about these transmissions???

It is cold (first start up) and I have trouble shifting into third (2-3 shift) after the engine/tranny warms up. it shifts much better!!
Why is that?? How to fix?

Oh great ! now the reverse is acting up as well. (cold and takes it's time to find reverse)

Is it time to go looking for a new transmission?

Should I adjust the bands? ( and change fluid?) <<< how would a shade tree mech. go about fixing this???

has it ever been rebuilt? if not maybe it needs it, my personal opinion is to buy a new tranny, ask around for a good brand, between rebuilding and getting a new tranny its about the same price for parts and labor, so basically...

REBUILD $ = NEW TRANS. $

Welcome to DF!!
Look at a tranny service manual on how to adjust your bands.
As far as i remember off the top of my head... poorly adjusted bands do in fact affect reverse and 2-3 shifts!!
so you may be lucky!
However if it is a HUGE difference once the truck is warmed up, then more than likely you need a reseal/rebuild - the seals in the tranny are getting old and expanding and contracting alot due to tempertature - bad.
Good Luck!!

It has never been rebuilt that I know of.....

Even though I am not "schooled" as some on hereI think I will try for the band adjustment. I do have the service manualS, so if common tools will work, then onward I go.

Oh yeah, I do I make it warm up outside so I CAN go out and work on the truck? LOL ok it is not that cold in texas....

Do an trans service and band adjustment....My brother's 97 started shifting bad and the trans overheating warning light came on...Took to a shop they did a complete service and band adjustment and had no problems since..Yes these are weak trans but just because it starts acting up does not mean it needs to be replaced..If you haven't all ready,,add an trans cooler..

A trans cooler will help huh? I am not pulling anything, sometimes I will pull my show car but nothing really heavy.
I would like a shift kit added, but I should fix the slipping first. No use putting one in if I have to rebuild the tranny....
