Confused on tire sizes
Today when I was at my mechanics getting my exhaust pipe rewelded to the hanger I found myself with some downtime. I was just kind of chit chatting with my buddy/mechanic welding the pipe and I saw a big stack of new tire and rims package all stacked up in a pile. The other guy who owned the shop was going to be putting them on his Chevy truck. The tires look big, and they were Procomp Xtremes I think. Anyway when I asked him about it, he said my tires looked pretty big too. I told him they were 35's, and he didnt believe me. He took a tire off from the pile and rolled it up to mine. And sure enough, they looked pretty dead even in width and height, he even kind of picked on me lol. His tires were a "305/65/17" and mine are a "35/12.5/17"...so I was just a little confused why his "33" tire looked as big as mine did? Or was it just an optical illusion of some sorts?

RE: Confused on tire sizes
If I had to guess I would just say it was because they were brand new and if they were pro comp xtreme mt's then they have a pretty tall tread.
My buddy has some nitto mud grapplers that are the exact same size as my maxxis buckshots and his look like 35's compared to mine.

RE: Confused on tire sizes
well yours are 35's...
his brake down like this 305(30.5cmX2.54=12.01) 12.01X.65=7.81 7.81X2=15.61 15.61+17=32.6 so his are 32.6" tires....
however this is only mathamaticly what the tire size is they vary quite a bit between brands. i have held to identical size tires (315/75/R16) but different brands and 1 is almost always bigger than the other
best way to get the actual height not mathematical is to put a chock mark on your tire and on the ground drive forward till that chock mark is on the ground again (1 revolution)make a mark then measure between the 2 marks this is the circumference (distance around) to get the diameter (height) divide the distance between the 2 marks by 3.14 this will give you the actual height of the tires

RE: Confused on tire sizes
Well according to that converter his tires Diameter is 32.6", so lbasially a 33" tire Then his tire is 12" wide, about .5" smaller than mine, so it makes sense why they looked just as wide. But his height is what suprised me. I do think my tires aren't fully inflated though, his were like brand new with the new rims on them with full tread life. It still looked very close, maybe too much for my likings
