Default starting to smoke..

I've noticed my truck has started to smoke a little again. i say again because after i purchased it it did smoke a very little also. i changed the oil and filled the radiator and it stoped for a while. well the other day i was showing off and slammed the pedel to the floor. after that the truck started smoking from the rear pipes. more from the pass. side(im guessing because it has a shorter distance to travel then driver side exit). ive always had to replace coolant on the truck maybe once a week or so but its never hotter then 200 on the temp. its always 200 no matter what i do. once it got up to 220 and i put more coolant and it got down to 190 but i would say 90% of the time its 200. anyway i did some searching and it looks white to me not blue or black so im thinking its not oil or fuel. i hope its not a head gasket. the engine has alot of power and has no signs of anything wrong other then the coolant leak.

on a side note my old chevy caprice use to have a "leak" i could never find also and after changing out the radiator, water pump and hoses it stopped. it did also smoke but it was blue and later found out it was most likly due to the valve seals which tends to happen alot in chevy engines from what im told.

what test can i do to the engine to find out what the problem is? i do have a compression tester somewhere in my house i can try to do. what other things could it be?

Default RE: starting to smoke..

If it is just white smoke and it doesn't look like a James Bond smokescreen I would say it is just water vaipor because the temperature is starting to drop. If your exhaust smells like antifreeze then your headgasket is blown between the waterjacket and the exhaust port. If you want to do the compression test focus on #'s 5&7 heads are prone to crack between those two cylinders. You can get a presure testor for the radiator, Autozone loans them out, to see if you have any leaks. I would suspect the heater corecould beleaking out the drain hole in the firewall and you cant see it. Also 200 deg. is to hot change the thermostat to a 180 deg. A cool motor is a happy one!
