Default Pic of my Rear Diff - Is this normal?

Today i decided to change my fluid in my rear end. My trans. Tech told me to add some friction modifier and i hadn't change the fluid in the 6 moths (41k) that i have owned the truck.

I discovered this when i did the change.

Also, i cleaned everything i could and the fluid was fairly glittery. I can only assume its from the breakdown of the oil for the past couple years of abuse.

anyways. does anyone have any information on what this could have been caused by?

Thank you

also, there were no bits of metal or anything solid that came out of the casing. and all the teeth on everything were still present.

yes, i'm looking at all the scratches. no way in hell those are from the factory. i have never ever seen any factory part looking like a cat tried scratching through it.

What the hell could causethem to be sideways like that? and then they get deeper in the middle of them, like something came in, scratched, went deeper, and then lifted away. ? I have no idea, but I just wanted to see what you all thought of it getting deeper in the middle...

It looks liek it came that way... The scraches are too uniform, and perfect to be caused by something getting in the way, or wear of some sort... also the are horizontal where as if anything got in the way it would leave vertical marks...

Maybe it was the factorys way, or another owner's crude way of "balanceing" it...
Who knows, maybe someones accident when they were making them, either way its not going to cause it to work any differentally, which is why they used it, and most people never see the inside of that so who cares is what they thought.

I wouldent let that worry me the least bit.
