Default Thermostat replacement warning

Decided to do the 180 degree thermostat upgrade this weekend. Cleaned out the garage and got the truck in there, went and bought the thermostat, gasket, and RTV. Went smooth, until I tried to get the upper rad hose off the water inlet pipe (4" straight pipethat sits on top of the thermostat). Wouldn't come off. Even tried pushing a screwdriver in there to seperate the hose from the pipe. Finally decided it to cut it off and get a new hose. Well, the reason it wouldn't come off is 'cause the pipe was all rusty and rotten. I thought, "Great. I wonder how much of that cr@p is floating around in my coolant." Also, it's 4:30 on Friday afternoon, and the closest dealer that has one is 45 min. away. The upside is, it only cost $8 and the parts guy at the dealer took it home and I met him at his house and paid him. The next morning I went to NAPA and got a new upper rad hose and 2 gallons of anti-freeze to flush the system.

So my $8 thermostat upgrade turned into a $58 repair.[:@]

That is a classless and dishonest move. The overall moral is that the coolant system should be flushed every 36 months. I keep telling people that but am always told that, "it doesn't matter". Learn from it.

Dude, why in the wolrd would you try to do something like that?

That is such a crappy dishonest thing to even think about doing. You have to maintain your vehicles, it's just something you have to do. To lie about a part you bought from somebody else and then pass it off like it's their fault is just a totally f'd up thing to do. I hate people like that................my guess is you just lost alot of repspect from quite a few people here, and definetely from me.[sm=boosign.gif]

White Ram: Well to go from $8.00 to $58.00 isn't bad, and you flushed your coolant and replaced a hose, so that isn't all bad. I'm sure you feel better about it now that it is all done though.

I was just trying to help him out, so take your oppinion and sit on it.

nhlbill: I do feel better abut it now that it's all done, and I know it's done right. What pissed me off with the whole thing is when you have two kids, a mortgage, and the wife doesn't work, $50 vs. $8 is a lot of money. Especially around Xmas. But the silver lining was the parts guy hooking me up.

padodgeram: Yep, you're right. And after wrenching on my own vehicles for the better part of 20 years, I should know that by now.

Why'd you get it at the dealer anyways and not NAPA or CarQuest? Thats the problem.

Unless of course its a dealer only part.
