a whine in reverse and nuetral
when i put my truck into reverse or neutral it makes a whine, sometime it doesnt, but most of the time it does , anybody know what it could be, or anyone else have this problem its a 2000 dodge ram 5.9
Check fluid level first. Also check to see if fluid has a burnt smell. If all is well with the fluid your transmission might be ready for repair or rebuild. I had the same problem with my 94 Ram 1500 .It made the same noise you described and then shortly thereafter it died. I had it rebuilt the first time it happened and threw it away the second time . I switched to a 5 speed. Theres my thoughts on the matter. Others on the forum might be able to give you more help.
there is a TSB on an aluminum part in the 46 series automatic trans

I also heard that the cold fluid ossilating in the valve body can cause it. Mine makes noise in reverse, but only when it is cold (i.e. not at operating temp).
