Default 4x4

just wondering what this may be....when I take my 4 wheel drive off and just have 2wd and begin to drive it makes a loud bang..wondering if this is common in dodges?..I have owned several 4x4's before and never heard anything like this except when you are driving then disengage the 4 wheel drive.

Mine clunks sometimes, becauseI dont let off the throttle when i pull the lever back. But a banging sound is not good. When does it do it specifically??

well if I'm backing out of my garage and use 4wd to get over the snow and once I get to the road take it out of 4wd and begin to drive fwd that's when it clunks when it disengages.

How are your tires?
I get a light clunk like above when I disengage 4wd.
If you tires aren't worn evenly your drive train can bind up and give you strange noises. Low or uneven tire pressure can cause the same
My "clunk" was greatly reduced when I put 4 new tires on recently.

I believe that sounds is the axles disengaging in your front axle, try stopping before you take it out, and see what happens

really tires? Actually that you mention it they are completly messed up some have flat spots in them and some are just unevenly worn....thank you for the help...as for stopping before disengaging it...that's how I always do it I just wanted to make sure something was not going wrong in the joints.
