better to change spark plugs when engine is hot or cold?
I just did the plugs in my 99 1500 5.9 and let me tell you i broke 3 plugs with the hex come off. After that i was talking to a dodge tech which is an actual respectable one like the ones on this forum and he told me to always change the Champion plugs in the mag motors while being hot. Let them cool with the plugs out and install new plugs while the motor is cool. I hopethis helps ya out, it seems everyone has thier own ideas.
I pull my plugs every 6 months and check them since I run the MSD6A ignition system with Blaster 2 coil. (Hotter spark wears the plugs out faster). I also have two different spark plug sockets. One snaps the porcelain almost every time and the other never has. The one that always works is much more open on the inside so it doesn't touch the tip of the plug if the socket goes a little sideways.
The best way to prevent your plugs from seizing in any vehicle is to replace them, or check them as I do, more often. They never get the opportunity to freeze. Also when I had my heat shields on I would remove them, blowout the plug area, and then remove my plugs. Got tired of them so yanked them for good.
