Default Tire size?

Helo everyone I'm new to the forum. I got a 1999 Ram 2500 SLT Laramie V10 with the factory OEM lift.Therear blocks measured about 5 1/2or 6 inches. I'm running 285-75-16 on stock rims. I have no rubbing at all. I would like to go with 315-75-16's. will they fit?

I personally woulnd't do it. You could probably run 305/75/16s if you want a little bit more width, but 315/75/16 are 35s and while is completley possible, you will rub on the control arms when you get too close to lock and if you go offroad at all you will probably eat your fenders up.

Also you have to consider that you probably have 3.55 gears and you'll want to be replacing those with something lower like 4.56 or 4.88 or your truck will not like you anymore, and you will not like it.

Thanks for the info. I was looking for both height and width, mainly height. I'll check to see what gearing I'm running. I believe I readedunder the hood sticker the axel gear ratio 3.5. I stopped and asked at a local tire shop. They thought the 315-75-16 would fit, but recommended to go with wider rims. They where willing to try it on and see if it fits, if it does'nt well it'll be the 285-75-16, 295-75-16 or 305-70-16. I'll probably go in a week or twoI'm deciding between BFGoodrich T/A K/O and Coopers STT. Thanks again and any other info would be greatly appreciated.

I'd go with the discoverer STTs way more agressive tread.

Also you can run a 12.5 inch wide tire on a 7" wide rim no problem, just keep your air pressure down so you don't ruin your center treads.

if you plan on using your stock rims with the bigger tires you may run into the problems about rubbing in the front, also i think the factory 2500 rim width is 7.5" and the 305 and 315 shuld run at least an 8" wide no big deal, but alot of tire stores these days won't do it or if they do won't honor warrenty/repair issues

also for best on road handeling a 17" or largerwould be be better with the larger tires

my combo of stock hummer H2 wheels and tires seem to strike a good ballance for me, the offset allows fender coverage yet plenty of control arm room with just minor splash shield rub at full lock, and they don't stick out like the majority of aftermarket wheels, the 315/70/17 BFG AT's feel much better on road then my factory set up everdid, and my tires are 50% worn

Yeah that's why all the hardcore offroad guys have 15" rims right?

Put it this way. The smaller your rim the more tire, the more rubber you can flatten out when have low air pressure, the more rubber making contact with the ground. Tires are cheaper for 15 inch rims. Now if you haul stuff alot I'd say get 16" because most 15" mudder tires are 6 ply where as you can get alot of 10 ply mudders in 16" size.
