Interior light HELP please
hello all, new to the forum and i like it. i just bought another Dodge Truck, 2001 Ram ext cab 4x4. it has a few things that need to be fixed but i need help with the interior lights. they stay on all the time!!!!!!!!!!!! it has the basic overhead console and both lights are broke, they have power but the push on/off is not working ( the springs are gone ). the inside roof mounted light works great but will not shut off. any ideas? does it have a timer at all? any help would be great and thanks in advance.....
Check the switch in the door jam. I believe on these trucks they are on the front side of the door. If you push it the light should go off, if it don't then you have an idea where to start. Some of these havea timer also so they go off incase you leave the door adjar so you don't have a dead battery, my 1999 1500 does but my 95 3500 don't. Check that switch out it should be black that sticks straight out with maybe rubber bellows around it.
check ALL fuses. all timing functions are controlled by Central Timing Module (CTM) which is a black box about 4" x 3" x 1" thats mounted under the dash, sort of behind the ashtray, and just to the right of the gas pedal. it bolts onto a support rail under the dash and has an electrical connector with a ****load of wires on it. inside the black plastic box is a circuit board with the chimer speaker embedded in the middle of it. ANY missing fuse can affect operation of the CTM and cause problems with lights/timing, wipers/timing, chimes (key in, lights on, low fuel, seat belt), etc, etc, etc. this box is also a target for previous owner hackers that want to silence some of the ding, ding, ding chimers. if yours seems messed up you might try swapping yours out with a buddy to see if it fixes anything. they cost $119 at the dealer.
i checked both doors and the messed with the dimmer switch already both nothing. it just stays on all the time. i will check the CTM but all everything else works fine and the chime also works too. thanks
i did some checking and the door jamb switchs seem to be fine. everything else seems up to par too. i'm going to check the box under the dash this week. any other input anyone???????

i agree with dhvaughan.. its in the CTM .. and a simple fuse can do this.. ANY fuse to it can do this..and there is more than one.. anything on a timer goes thru this thing.. dome light.. headlights (if its got auto shut down) even none timed crap goes thru it.. check it out.. i would hazard a fuse.. or the module is on the blink.. try to tap on it to kick the light off... u should hear it click like a relay..
