Default Simple Green

Got a quick question about simple green. Between me and the previous owner, under the hood of my truck is caked with mud (The engine and everything else) Well i heard alot of good things about using simple green to cut through it and make it look new again. Just wondering if its true. Does it work. I picked some up today but it says super concentrate. Should i not dilute it or should I....also what ratio should I dilute? What should I cover. Do i need to scrub the engine or let it sit....well im off to work so ill check it when i get home (this post) and might try to clean the engine later.

Thanks in advance,
dmdenike

Well i diluted mine when i used it. Just be careful to watch like the brake booster cap and other plastic stuff as it took the black paint from the letters off of it. I tried to clean my firewall using simple green and.. engine brite to grab onto that mud. My engine is all like salt'd up from when the previous owner never cleaned it. Some people just powerwash it, but I was afraid of that. The simple green is a great cleaner imho, but it just didnt seem to work in my case. Oh well. At least the engine compartment smelled good when I was done.

i'd remove the excessive mud at a car wash with the pressure washer. full pressure on fender wells, undercarraige, and suspension, very light pressure (and distance) on the engine and firewall. i also use the car wash's 'engine cleaner' setting. i've found it to do a really good job. after that, mix the simple green as recommended and spray it on with a windex type bottle or a pump up yard style sprayer and let it soad, then rinse. simple green is a very good degreaser, but it takes pressure to remove caked on mud.

My words exactly. That's exactly what I would do as well. Mud isn't going to come off with degreaser, it may loosen it some, but you really need to pressure wash to get the caked mud off. Then use the degreaser to really clean it up. Good luck!!
