It actually looks like there's some room in there to work, but how would I remove the bad plug?
With a pry bar, punch,or a sturdy screw driver knock the plug in with a hammer. Then grab the lip of the plug with a pliersand pull it back out the same hole

And when I do, how much coolant is gonna gush out?
All of it! (lots)

I had a small coolant leak and could smell it ever so often then it happened when i was in another town the water pump blew but i dont think thats what you have

yup....front of the motor is dry
