Default Plenum repair help

In the DIY section the instructions say to drain the coolant. Why does this have to be done?

It has to be done because when you pull the intake off, there is coolant passages in the cylinder heads and it will leak coolant into the lifter valley.

Because the thermostat mounts into the front top of the intake manifold. Coolant flows through the manifold so you must drain it before removing the manifold, otherwise all of that coolant will go into your engine oil.

A few dollars spent on a repair manual and some learning of engines will go a long way.

It is not really necessary, it just gives you alittle more room to work with under the hood.

Why would you need to remove the fan assembly to remove the intake? It will be in the way, but it is not completely necessary is all I am saying.

If you don't remove the fan then prepare for a very sore back. You can do it without removing the fan it's just a lot harder. If you remove the fan you can actually stand infront of the engine and work. Tons easier on your back.

you will have to strip down the top part of the motor which includes the accessories.. a/c ps, alt etc... get those out of the way and you should be good to go. yanking off the fan & shroud makes it so you can stand in the engine compartment when working on it. much easier to work on for the 10~15 min to take the fan & shroud off.
