I'm kind of in the same boat, but I'm only looking for a good place to mount some switches. I just don't see any good place on the dash. I'm kinda toying with the idea of getting a triple gauge pillar pod and blocking off one of the gauge holes with a plate and mounting switches there unless i can come up with a better and cheaper idea
There are a few things you could do...
For my CB mout (I would imagine it would be similar for your radio), I built a few brackets that would hold my CB in front of the middle seat. They could probably be madewithout a welder using bolts and stuff - but since I had a welder, that was what I used.It works pretty well because you don't really have to tear anything apart to get it setup. Plus, the radio is in easy reach. There was another thread where somebody was selling something similar - but it my opinion it looked way too oversized and overdone. But that one on Pavement sucks looks pretty sweet I must say.
As for switches... I have an aftermarket stereo that didn't take up the entire dash opening for the radio. So I made my own mounting plate and shifted the radio down in the hole. That left room for a lot of switches above that. I have also been thinking about making a "box"that would mount to the right of the steering column. Basically all the switches would mount in the box, the box would be attached to the dash cover (underneath the bezel ring that goes around the speedo, etc). The wires would be routed through a crack - that way I don't cut the hell out of my dash cover. If you don't have the ability to do that, you could find an instrumentation box (basically an empty plastic/metal case (http://www.radioshack.com/product/in...entPage=search). You can mount your switches there... and stuck it under the steering column or something. Then collect at the wires together using something like this:

I'll try and grab a picture of the CBmount I made to stick in the thread.
Good luck!
