quick intake question...
ok so I have used a lot of info from the forum and finally decided to jump in and start posting... That being said I have done a lot of searching for intake advice and keep comin up with arguements regarding ramair gimicks, CAI not being effective you get the idea. Anyway my situation is this: I am running basicly stock 99 ram 1500 with I believe 31 or 33 tires (whatever the largest tires can fit on the stock suspension... been a while since I thought about those tires) my only real mod is an electric exhaust cutout placed after the cat, I was scared of toasting the valves and didnt really need THAT much sound. I am wondering what the best way to get need air into the starving engine would be. I am looking mainly to unleash the power that I know my 5.9 is capable of... and I know it is just choking with that stock airbox on it. that being said it seems like most of you like the round K&N filter which I must admit is pretty cool, however I dont know how well that would work for me as I do like to head off the beaten path a little. After my last excursion the entire engine compartment was just caked with mud. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I dont mean to start any heated debates and I am sorry if this whole intake thing is gettin a little redundant.
on a side note thank you to EVERYONE that has posted in the past about ball joints great info... I am tackling them next w/e

Well, if your worried about getting mud in your filter, but like the round set-up, try the ram air box -

There's some write ups on it under the K&N FIPK No More Thread. It may be what your looking for.
Worse comes to worse, you can always put a K&N drop in panel filter in your stock box, and rig up a Ram Air tube from the side of your radiator to your box.
