Default Need help troubleshooting a couple problems(please help!!)

alright first of all its a 96 dodge ram 1500 4x4 auto 5.9. Please help im at the end of my wits!

The first major problem is that my brake and abs light came on the other day when I was trailering a car. lost the brakes for a quick second but they came back. When I got home, I pumped the brakes while my brother looked for leaks, but nothing showed up. I opened the master reservoir cap, pumped the brakes and fluid came flying out of it. LIKE A GEYSER! I figured a seal must of went bad in the master so I swapped a new one in. Brakes feel alot better but the lights are still on.

#2- When I first bought the truck, everytime I took it out of 4x4 the light would hang on for like 2miles. Now 2yrs later, recently I took it out of 4x4 and the light is still on and wont turn off. I know that its out of 4x4(front axles are not engaged),but not fully, I can hear a little bit of squeeking(sounds like chirping birds) in the front. sounds like maybe a hub is hanging up maybe? no idea. Ive tried putting in reverse.doing it from a stop, doing it from a roll, doing it in reverse. all to no avail.

#3 My turn signals dont work as of late. The emergency lights flash all 4 corners, but when I just click it up or down to go left or right I dont get anything.

Dont know much about the first two but for the signal problem sounds like your flasher unit has gone out. The standard flasher uint and the emergency unit are separate from each other, they are the two cylindrical things in your fuse box. I dont rember which one is which if it wasnt 33* and rainning out or I would go check) you can get them at any parts store and they just unplug like a fuse.

Ok rain stopped for a minute so I went outside to check it is the bottom one the top one is for the four-ways.

#2 how does your HVAC work? does it not change from floor to defrost like it should?

i ask b/c you may either have A: a vacume problem . (could cause the brakes to be crappy aswell) or B: the fork in your CAD unit decided to crap out finally.. the diaphram end of the fork likes to corrode and stop working,,,

when you take your master cap off and hit the brake pedal its normal for the brakefluid to come squirting out like it did

yeah, everybody does that once.

4wd light is controlled by a contact/plunger switch in the end of the cad. there is a 2 wire connector there. when the shift fork moves over to couple the axle, it depresses the plunger or something on the switch, which connects the 2 wires, which turns on the light. you can test the switch with an ohm meter, it should turn on (continuity) and off (open) when the fork slides back and forth. you can replace the switch for about $20 or less at autozone or advance. a small amout of diff oil might come out when you remove it, so have a pan handy.

as for actual 4wd disengage. when there is tension on the drive line, the fork may not disconnect the axles immediately. its generally best to stop, back up a little, then go forward. you can sometimes hear a little clunk when it slides off.

brake and abs light are a result of either speed sensor on the top of the diff, or on the trans/t-case tail shaft. its a never ending debate as to which one, usually leaning towards the top of the diff.
