The water pump is leaking. However, the weep hole is slightly wet. When I was under it, it wasn't leaking from there. It looks like it is leaking from the actual gaskets where it meets with the block. I've never seen this before. Should I go ahead a replace the WP, or could I get away with just changing the gaskets? All help is appreciated.

you don't mention the year, but on my old '76 chev, changing the water pump is a breeze, and the cost from autozone is low, something like $29 or $39. if you're going to pull the pump off, by ALL means put a new one on it. it's probably really leaking through the bearing seal, and just looks like its coming from the gasket. put on new fan belts too since you have to remove them.

Sorry I forgot the year. It's a 2001. I guess I'll go ahead and replace it. It's got over 130,000 miles. Thanks for the help. Just needed someone to give me the go ahead.

Left hand thread fans are tricky until you realize that you were actually tightening the **** out it instead of removing it

Itis very commonfor the newer Chevy water pump gaskets to leak and the pump to be perfectly fine, but with that kind of mileage I would replace the pump when doing the gaskets. One thing to be careful of is to properly torque the bolts, I think it is 11 ft. lbs, the point is they break easily is over torqued. Also while you are there go ahead and replace the thermostat, it is attached to the water pumps on the V8s.

Oh yeah the fan clutch is standard right hand thread.
