What's your opinion on Gas Mileage
First one I knew was for a 318, so I knew it wouldn't work (came with the first tranny they sent, an NV3500 which was WRONG). Second one I had a bad vibration and it was misfiring. Turns out it was for a 3.9L V6. So then I found out exactly how to identify the one I needed. The 3rd one one showed up and it was for a truck V10 (no CPS triggers, there's a tone ring in the center of the crankshaft on the truck V10). 4th one was at a local junkyard, turned out to be for a Viper V10. 5th one was ordered and showed up correct.
Nope, no vibes. The flywheel is balanced for the 360 motor. Biggest problem is that I had to machine a custom pilot bushing and it's just a little too loose. The new PCM showed up today. Plugged it in and all the fuel injection problems went away. It seems doggyer than ever before though. Of course, I was pulling the car trailer... It came out of a 1/2 ton. I'm wondering if there's a difference between the 1/2 ton and 3/4 ton program. I've heard the 3/4 ton has 25 more horsepower from the factory, but I haven't been able to prove it.
I don't know about the 3/4 ton vs 1/2 programs, however maybe a programmer might help some. even if your gonna tow with it, there are ways around the pinging issue that comes with the more agressive programs. I posted some threads a while back on how I got around needing 93 octane gas here in CA (91 oct only) when using a chip in the BMW, I also applied this to my truck and it did run awesome for a while (till the plenum started leaking again). those mods were also good for a 6~7% increase in mpg.
I've been thinking of getting a programmer for it. But my first priority is to get the 4x4 working. And I've spent a TON of money in the last few weeks cause of moving. So it'll be a while before I get any more toys for the ram.
I hear you, I'll be moving in the next few weeks as well and fortunatly I have everything I need... sitting in the garage waiting for me to spend a good weekend to put it in... pleunum kit, timing chain and 1.7 Crower's. It would be nice to have it all in there now
just put a electric fan on my 440 ram. went 16.3 last year with clutch style going to the track in the end of april if it is a 15 hp gain then i should run 16.1 well see keep posted
In 1998 the Magnum 5.9V8 in 2500/3500 Rams should be the same as the 1500s, but the PCM should have slightly different programming in order to pickup the trans temperature sensor.
In 1994-1995 there were two Magnum 5.9V8s.
One was the 'light duty' used in 1500 Rams
and the other was a 'Heavy Duty' Magnum 5.9V8 that had a belt driven air pump, dual cats before a bigger single exhaust and a special PCM computer.
The Heavy Duty 5.9V8 had the torque peak at a lower rpm (2800 rpm i think) than the 3200 torque peak of the light duty.
