Thanks to everyone for sharing their experience. I can see that any modification can be justified. I have read enough to prevent me from wasting anymore time and money totryto improve the performance of my truck. There are sooo many more worthwhile, meaningful, significant things i could be doing. Thanks again.
Ain't that the truth... Damn I should be saving money for a house... [&o]

It's true too, that's why I don't plan to go anymore after the intake and fastman throttle body. All I want is my truck to be a little more customized than the average person, have a little more torque than the next guy and his goofy truck on the line, and it to sound mean as hell. I'm focused on getting the intake and tb, and possibly a performance tuner, and then I am done, period..

No worries Indy I dont get the feeling your attacking me, I enjoy reading a good debate because I think you can learn alot from them. I absolutely agree with you about research, it took me 11 months of research to decide what vehicle I wanted next. I spent two months deciding what exhaust to install. I read stuff on here, other forums, online articles (hot rodding, engine building, blah blah), and talked with a reputable mopar mechanic. My research lead me to the Longtubes due to primary size/length, two into one system, and a magnaflow muffler. Anyway the whole point is that if I had just gone with themajority I'd probably have shorties with a flowmaster dual exhaust (notthat it would be a bad thing at all, it just wouldn't haveworked for me). Research is important to find what you THINK is going to work for you. Oh and I still disagree with you about the shorties
Dude, I thought you had a magnalfow muffler? When did you do the swap?Haha...look @ ur sig.
I do havethe magnaflow. I think you may have misread

HAHA, was just trying to mess with you.We got this nice heated battle goingon, and I thought i'd throw a joke in and lighten things up a bit. Look at the attached picture and you'll see what I ment.
HA HA HA! I totally missed that! lol I guess you didn't misread. I'm gonna to ahead and fix that.

Oh and .... Volume (cylinder) = pi * r^2 * h where r is the radius and h is the hieght. In case you need it, pi to the tenth digit is 3.141592654

1. Louder IS faster.

2. No calculations or measurable evidence can negate the buttdyno.

3. If it FEELS faster, it IS faster.

Did you....? Well......I just know. How do you KNOW? Well.......(see 2 & 3 above)

I think we all say this at one point. I've said I was done with my truck in the past and it just seems to never really stop.

Those John Mercedes built headers
look like they have been built by a craftsman
and the primary tubes look close to the desired 42 inch long length.

Another custom maker of ss headers with good looking pictures:

Hank,

Here's the part of the email John sent me about the headers. Prices were 2 months ago (pre Christmas), so I don't know if they're still valid:

The long tube headers will make you work to install but are really
scoring
the big time HP on dyno's. we are really proud of these and have
500-600hp
408's out there running them.
The headers come with Y pipe which has O2 sensor bungs welded on it and
each
collector has one O2 sensor bung. Gaskets, header bolts, plugs for O2
bungs,
are included.
the Y pipe joins together just in front of the muffler where you could
add
an X pipe and run true duals. Or, it comes with a 2 into 1- 3" adapter
so
you can run a single 3" pipe to a single muffler.

the pricing is:

retail $950 with Y pipe your cost $599
Jet Hot coating $295 your cost $250
X pipe $98 your cost $70
Shipping is $45 in U.S. and freight collect in Canada

there should be another allotment of headers being completed now. if
we
sell those out of stock there is a build time 4-6 weeks for another
allotment.

hope this helps pal. I included some pictures of the headers and some
pics
of a 408 belonging to one of our guys with the headers and billet valve

covers on it.

let me know if i can do anything for you.

John,

Sounds like whoever's building them out of house for him is a small operation. Whoever it is took a great deal of pride in their work, the seams on the pipes are nearly invisible. I wonder what the insides look like?
