Default truck computer

i was wondering if a computer out of a 1996 1500 4x4 with a 5.9L engine would work in a 2001 2500 4x4 with the same motor. i got the computer for free and mine has the death flash so i was wondering i could just put this one in? thanks

Your truck may start with the 96 computer, but I am relatively positive everything will not work right. Different sensors, transmission, elctronics, ODBI vs ODB2. I would not even attempt it in the fear that something in the truck would get fried by the older computer.
