Replacing Rear U joint
I'm going to be replacing the rear U joint on my 2000 ram 4x4. 1 question, I see there are clips on the one that is on my truck now, is that all that holds the u joint in place or is it pressed in ?
you need some needle nose pliers to squeeze it toghter LOOKS LIKE AN L AND I squeeze that part toghter with a flathead screw driver pry at ittill the ring pops out..then get a BFH and a socket bigger then the ujoint stick it on the botton part of the drive shaft to push part of the ujoint thru and do the same on the other side.
actually the caps are pressed in. its not a real real real tight fit, but it takes either a press or BFH to get them out and some pretty good pressure to get them back in. mine were so tight they didn't want to go back in without too much BFH'ing so i used a dremel with a sanding disk and went around the inside of the yokes a couple times. if you do this don't get carried away, you want it to remain as a tight, tap in, SFH fit.
