Hey everyone first post on here,anyways i bought a 97 1500 sport with a 360 the guy had seized the motor and got another one rebuilt,most of it is still apart i have a brand new stock cam, but i think if im gonna cam it i should do it now while its apart,so im just wondering what performance cams you guys have used and not had to do any other mods to the engine,springs, rockers etc.? Im knda on a budget so thats whats stopping me from going a bit farther.any help is greatley appreciated.

roller cam motors are expensive, so i wouldnt waste money buying a small cam/lifters/springs/retainers/locks/chainkitnow, then realize thatthe cam isnt big enough later, thenbuying a whole new cam kit down the road. with newer computer controlled engines, you will need to have the computer settings adjusted with a new camshaft. its not worth buying 2 cam kits and 2 computer upgrades etc etc. with that in mind and with the idea that you will probably want additional engine upgrades, idgo with a book cam like the

COMP CAMS CRS262HR-12

if you want to go a step up go COMP CAMS CRS264HR-12. you WILL NEED SPRINGS NO MATTER WHAT.im not a fan of comp cams' flat tappets, but they're roller cams are fine. if you wanted to go bigger, id get the XR265HR-14 ground on a 112 lobe sep.


also you should at least get cheap summit brandroller rockers and headers. these parts can always come later, butobviouslythe enginecombo will workbetter with intake and exhaust upgrades.doing it with the motor apart and clean on a stand is so much easier. any good double roller timing chain will do.
