Default trouble shifting out of 2nd

Drove my truck to class this morning, about 5 miles each way, and it ran fine. Got in it this afternoon to head back to another class and it ran fine. Then on the way back from campus I noticed the truck was not shifting correct. Normally I try to keep it under about 2000 rpm's so I get better mileage. So I'll accelerate to about 2000, let off gas slightly to keep revs there, and it'll shift fine. It still shifts fine from 1st-2nd, but it won't shift into 3rd. Speed limits on the roads around here are all 30 so I couldn't get up to any higher than about 45. But even accelerating to 45 then keeping speed steady for awhile it still wont' shift into 3rd. At about 2500rpm's in 2nd if I let off the gas the exhaust gurgles and pops loud as hell and actually sounds ****in awesome. But the truck still sits in 2nd. Any idea's as to what's wrong with it?

Yep, tranny is toast. Cant build up enough hydraulic pressure to shift to 3rd, which is what happens in these transmissions. As a last resort, take some transmission fluid out and add a bottle of Lucas Stop-Slip. My uncle added this to his 96 as a last resort, after a couple of miles of driving around, it shifted, and has shifted for 20,000 miles. Lucas is the only thing that worked, mostly because it is thick so it builds up around the seals. If it works, you really cant get the RPMS over 2000 or else it wont shift because it blows all the lucas out, then in the winter you will have to let it warm up for 20 minutes.

I would try changing the governor solenoid first. It controls line pressure and is fairly easy to change.

i changed the governor selonoid on mine and it seems to be doing the same thing again after 6 months from putting the new one in....do u think the new one is bad already????....tried cleaning the sonsor in tranny with the magnet but it dont seem to hav helped....so i am assuming the new selonoid is bad or the tranny is shot for real????
