Harmonic balancer removal
dh,
For my overhaul I'm going to follow your lead from this thread: https://dodgeforum.com/m_735291/tm.htm
At the bottom of PS article about replacing the chain a commentor suggests putting something thru the balancer to stop it from rotating. I won't know if it works until I get there, but I hope i have an easy as time as nola.
BTW, you should expect some PM's from me on advice on this overhaul! I'm kinda nervous about the oil pump, but like you I'm not sure if I want to repeat this scenario again in the future.

for balancer removal, borrow the tool from advance or autozone. they charge you for it (credit card) and then credit the whole amount when you return it. it will have solid bolts that won't break. also, where the center bolt of the puller seats into the end of the crank - put the big bolt back in the end of the crank, with some free play, and let the puller push on the bolt head, NOT ON THE THREADS in the end of the crank. i used the air gun on the balancer

I hate to be sterotypical, but with the current rebuilding in our area the local parts stores seem to mainly cater to the non-english speaking set. So I try to deal with the people at parts counters as little as possible.
AIR GUN WORKS BEST!
