2000 Ram Reverse Problems
Hi All, Can I get some help my 2000 ram 1500crew cab 5.9 v8 Sport 4wd
I was traveling along the interstate in cruise and then hit the coast button the transmission. Since then, the car will not go into reverse.
Any thoughts on where to begin looking for the problem? Everything checks out fine, transmission fluid, oil, etc.

Normally hitting coast while using the Cruise control will have no effect on your reverse action.
How many miles on the transmission since its last rebuild?
What happens when you put it in reverse? does it sit there, any noise?
Yes, I meant to say "hit the coast button" and yes, it was while I was in cruise control. I guess this may not be the cause but literally, after I did that, the next day, I had the reverse problem.
I don't know how many miles since the last transmission rebuild -- I bought it used. It does have 100K miles in total. When I put it in reverse, nothing happens. It just sits there, and the only noise I hear is the engine revving as I press down on the accelerator.

Try moving the shift lever back and forth slightly, keeping the indicator in the "R" position. It should have a little give in it. My 2001 can get picky when its cold, if its past the center position of the "R", it will stay in Neutral. It has to be in the left part of the "R" or dead center, especially when its cold out.
