RPM changing ???
I have a 1995 Dodge Ram 1500 with a 5.9 gas. Something is bothering me and hopefully you guys have some useful info. Back when I got this truck when I would set the cruise @ 60 MPH the RPMs would read about 1250-1300 now the tach reads about 1500. Since this happenedI have changed oil/filter, spark plugs, wires, cap, rotor, cleaned the air filter (has cold air intake w/K&N filter) and for the hell of it installed a TB spacer cause it was easy. My tires aren't wearing funny and the truck doesn't pull to the left or right. I've checked all drive fluid levels and conditions (trany front and rear diffs). My milage has dropped a little but not enough to **** a guy off and it still has about the same power it did when I bought it.The former owner had a stage two chip from Jet in it and he took it out when I bought it for his other dodge(could this be why?). Any answers?????
It's probably a sign your transmission fluid and filter could use changing.
Doing this helped alleviate this exact problem in my truck, most speed reading cables work via the transmission but I could not tell you why it does this.
Unlike yourself what I noticed is my GPS reads my road speed to me and it was off from the speedo thou not as far as yours. Granted I noticed a mph discrepancy vs. an rpm one but I think it's all the same in this case, and sure enough it's better now, after I changed trans fluid and filter.
Worth a shot, more so if it hasn't been done in over 10k miles, even if it doesn't fix it at least you've done that part of the maintenance.

This is probably not related to your problems, but I'd recommend getting rid of that TB spacer. They are worthless.
I don't know if the Jet chip has anything to do with it, but I doubt it. They are known to have problems with our engines, but unless your computer is doing something funny, now that its off that shouldn't be the problem. What other mods had the guy down to the truck? A stage 2 chip is meant for a truck that has had some more than minor mods (free flowing exhaust and better intake, at the very least).
I know you said the tires weren't wearing funny, but when was the last time they were rotated?
And how are the temps outside compared to what they were when you bought the pickup?

Thankx for the tip your probably right I should change the trans fluid the former owner just rebuilt/replaced the trany 500 miles before i bought it he showed the paper work to prove it. Now i've put about 7k since then.
Well your probaby right with the usefullness of the TB spacer I got it from a buddy who was getting rid of his dodgeso it was free. I felt a low end pick up but it could be my imagination. The truck has freer exhaust the muffler was replaced with a cherry bomb. That is my next upgrade getting some headers and reduing the exhaust. This all started to happen when it started to get colder out but when going loger distances that shouldn't mater it should have warmed up by then should it. Maybe I should change to synthetic fluids I don't know. I just rotated the tires.
thankx for the info guys
Barry,

Barry,
I guess you can't argue with the cost being free on the TB spacer. Still, I would save up and get a Fastman TB, and after installing that, get rid of the spacer.
Changing to synthetics would help, although I doubt its your problem. Reduces wear on the engine mostly, and you can go longer between oil changes.
Oh, and welcome to the forum!

a 300 rpm difference could be caused by the torque converter not locking up.
test it on level ground and count the shift sounds/feelings.
my 01 does these.. 1-2 (no rpm drop) 2-3 (no rpm drop) tc lock (200-300 rpm drop) OD (big rpm drop).
if that's what it is, a filter/fliud change might help it, might not. i don't know.
