what brand tstat do yall prefer?
Not F*****
Check with your FAMILIAR LOCAL AUTO PARTS STORE. I have seen it used on other auto forums. I guess it could be smart too. Acronyms are huge now with all the texting and stuf like this.
My last two were Duralast and thats probably why I had two, I am getting a new one with my Hughes kit too.

well, i put in a nice new autozone one last march.... it lasted less than a year and quit about a week ago. replaced it with the stant brand. advance had a variety from about $5-10. the $10 stant had a lot more material in it than the $5 one. i think you sort of get what you pay for.

The factory thermostat is a Siebe/Robertshaw 'standard grade' 195
and it does have a tendency for the bottom brass arms to crack.
I have had one Robertshaw 'High Performance' balanced flow thermostat
fail on me in the closed position.
I have run Stant 205 standard grade
and SuperStat 180s with no failures.
Kenne Bell in house rear wheel dyno tests
show no measureable horsepower or torque gain
when switching from a 195 to a 180 thermostat
on a model year 1998 Magnum 5.9V8
My own experiments on a 1995 Magnum 5.9V8 have indicated
there is no increase in pinging with a 205
or decrease with a 180.
Running without a thermostat at about 140
on 100% water instead of anti-freeze mix
did decrease pinging in hot 95 degree summer weather
on 87 octane gasoline at full throttle
but I don't recommend running that way day to day.

thermostats are a 5 dollar piece. we may as well talk about what brand of screws we like best on our hose clamps. pointless. one will not work better than the other, it will work or it wont. buy one, put it in. if its bad, return it and get another, or go to another store. its just like any other 5 dollarproduct you buy. good luck on your conquest for world thermostat domination.
