Default Cam compatibility?

Ok, get a good chuckle and call me ignorant. I'm trying to learn a few things.

I've been looking at all kinds of modifications lately thanks to you all. Yes, I think I've even been converted to full longtube headers /gasp. I think I'll go with those headers because I want to put in some more serious upgrades later. I was wondering about camshafts and related parts. Can you install a cam that's made as an upgrade but will still work with your mostly stock engine and get away with upgrading the rest later. I do not have money for R/T or aftermarket heads right now, but I see it down the road.

If not, what're the essentials to go with the cam? Can ya get away with just new rockers and springs?

I want to do as much of this stuff myself as possible. I have a buddy at work who is a decent mechanic and has a drag racing background who is always around to get me thru the unknown stuff.

I've read about the 1.6/1.7 rockers and been to a few cam sites so far, but that's about it.

Default RE: Cam compatibility?

summit has cam friendly for the pcm , so does www.hugesengine.com you can either go with 1.7 roller rocker which then you can get a custom grind to work with the 1.7 or just get the 1.6 roller rockers then no worries about a custom grind...
