Default Four Wheel Drive Stopped Working

Just recently I got temorarily detained in my drive with all the snow we have been getting. I put my 97 Dodge Ram 1500 into four wheel drive and nothing happened. I was wondering if someone out there would have any idea what is going on? Once I shift the transfer case into four high or four low, the front wheels never engage.

Well, I dug myself out and tried putting it in four wheel drive and still nothing happens.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

A couple of things. My first thoughts.
I would assume you drove forward/reverse to see if it would engage. It helps to roll some to let the axle splineconnect.
The cad on the axle did not move the sleeve. No vaccuum to actuator. Actuator not working.

yeah a vacuum leak will prevent engagement. as well as anything with the vacuum system. usually the hose gets rotted and breaks off
