Default Front End/Steering List

Ok so my steering has been slightly loose, and the front end isn't very sturdy. for me to make a u-turn, it turns into a kooked up 3 pt turn, and when I go over a speed bump my truck shakes side to side up and down.

Now, I'm going on a trip and already changed the balljoints and pitman/idler arm, so I'll be ok with how it is until I get to my destination, then after that I want to:

[ul][*]Replace shocks (Brand; Bilstein, KYB or Monroe)[*]Replace TRE (already have a set of Spicers)[*]Replace Tracbar (Don't know much about them)[*]Replace Bushings? I don't want to get into the control arm bushings though.[/ul]And then tighten my steering using that little DIY trick I've read on here. I think you tighten a bolt down on the box?

Default RE: Front End/Steering List

the adjustment on the steering box is to remove play in the steering. if you have that, you might want to go ahead and snug it up before your trip. i had a lot of play, maybe 4" of travel in the steering wheel, which made it really hard to drive. to remove play, you tighten it down (turn screw clockwise). i turned mine a good bit, maybe 1 round, maybe 1 1/2, can't remember now. just have an assistant wiggle the wheel back and forth as you turn it. the effect is instant. if you go too far your steering wheel will not recenter after a turn. if you experience that, just back it off a tad.

good luck on the rest. that's all stuff i'll have to do one of these days.
