Default RE: Tips For Replacing Calipers

The slides seem a little sticky on these new calipers as they are hard to push in and out. Is that normal?

Need help now. I got them on and bled and the front calipers are locked up. I noticed I couldn't
move them by hand when trying to turn the rotor but thought maybe it was just tight. Well, it seems like they are locked up as when trying to drive it they just don't want to move. I have never had this happen. Whats the deal here? I can't figure out why they are locked up.

just because u cant turn it by hand doesnt mean its locked up. make sure the caliper pins are greased so it floats side to side. if you just bled them there could be pressure on them until you start the truck.

i dont know if any one said this but if you clamp the rubber brake hose with a pair of small vise grips then change the caliper you dont have to bleed as much just a couple pumps at each corner you dissasembled.

I pulled out of the garage and they were locked up. I gave it force to go back in and it snapped off both bolts that were in the slides. I took the caliper off and pushed the pistons back in and it seems okay on that one side now but I'm afraid it will lock up again. I had a extra set of bolts I put in.

The old calipers just had seals that looked worn out but they worked fine. I decided to replace them to avoid that but both of these were locked up and broke the bolts that go into the sliders. I put one side back on and it seems to be unlocked but I haven't driven on it yet.

Default RE: Tips For Replacing Calipers

Just thought I'd update you guys. I got them fixxed. Seems like my slide bolts were too long before. Thats all I can figure that caused the problem. The slider inside the rubber boot on these was quite a bit shorter than the factory ones as is it had the boot smushed up to stay on it. Well, I put the original bolts back in as I wanted to still have a regular 13mm head on it instead of hex/torx heads. Well, them being quite a bit longer I guess caused trouble. I can't decide if I want to swap the sliders from my old ones over and then go get factory bolts or just leave it like they are. One thing I don't like is they gave me hex bolts for one side and torx for the other. I wish they had given me one type for box. Anyway it works now. I'm glad to be done with it. In retrospect if I had known what I do now it would have gone a ton faster. Being that this was my first time doing this it took a while but if I was to do it again I think it would go a lot faster. I'm just going to bleed them some more as I had some small air bubbles in one that didn't want to go away. I'm hoping it isn't leaking them in somewhere. They were tiny and not many and the brakes work pretty well so I'm not sure if I should worry about them or not.
