Default rear locker ?

ok so I have been searching the threads and I am just confusing myself so here the situation: I have a 99 ram stock other then exhaust I road with a few buddies on the w/e and I am looking for a little extra edge in the sand and loose dirt. one of the jeep guys has a switch in his cab which in his words makes the jeep a posi rear when engaged and stock when disengaged. any thoughts on the topic or other suggestions for a little extra edge without going too overbaord as this isnt going to be my hardcore wheelin rig, but rather the fun truck to tow the wheelin rig.

Lose some weight (off the truck) if you're gonna be in the sand. I too have a buddy with a Jeep with ARBs front and back, but he mixed his with 35" tires, and broke a c-clip eliminator and a chunk off the end of his axle, which fragged his locker. If this isn't gonna be a hard core wheel rig, don't go with a full on air or electric locker, just go for something like the Powertrax No-Slip. Some guys on the forum have them and like them. I'm getting one with my tax returns.

Unfortunately the Dodge Ram 1500 has the 9.25 corporate axle in the rear. this axle has no aftermarket availability for a "selectable" locker as you are describing. The only choices you have for this axleare to leave it as an "open" differential, or changeto a Limited Slip Differential (such as a Auburn LSD, or a Detroit Truetrac), or install a "automatic"locker (like a Detroit Locker, or any of the "lunchbox lockers" like the Lockrite, Powertax No-Slip, Detroit EZ-Locker etc...).

Selectable lockers like ARB, Auburn ECTED, OX, Eaton E-Locker, and the Corporate selectable lockers like the ones in the Jeep Rubicons are just not available for the Dodge 9.25. it's too bad too, because a selectable locker is the way to go for a daily driven truck. they give you the ability to drive around on the steet with an open differential and then when needed at the touch of a button, engage the locker and have full 100% split in the axles torque regardless of whether a wheel is in the air or touching the ground.

The best traction you have availabel for your 9.25 is with a Detroit Locker. IMHO.
