tranny preperations??????
Ok guys i have a 2000 off-road 4x4 extendacab with the 360 auto and i was wanting to know what would be the best thing to do when my tranny goes out.....should i rebuild it or just get a rebuilt one or what can i do to rebuild it and make it better and so on.....whatever info i can get would be helpful for WHEN it does go out because i am waiting for it to happen.....or what can i do to try to stop it because i hear some guys are doing the premaintainance and it is still going out???? ANY HELP????
Change the filter and fluid and adjust the bands EVERY 20,000 miles. Don't just drop the fluid either, flush it out completely when you change it. When you do the change, take both cooler lines off the driver's side of the transmission and blow them out with compressed air to get all the crud out of the cooler. It's also good to get rid of the factory cooler and put the biggest aftermarket one you can get on it. And there's a crossover tube in your stock cooler lines right before the cooler itself, it basically BYPASSES the damn cooler! Get rid of it if you put a new cooler on, or crimp it if you keep the stock one. Synthetic fluid also helps, but is very expensive for a system that takes 10-12 quarts.
If/when your trans goes out PM me. I swapped out my junk automatic and converted to a 5-speed from a 1-ton. Don't ever have to worry about the trans failing now. And it was a relatively painless swap. I've got instructions written out on pretty much everything involved with the swap if you're interested.

I would be interested as well. Only had my ram for a month now. Love the truck but hate the fact that its an Auto. Was thinking about doing a swap one day and any info would be helpful.
