ok I know yall hate talkin about intakes here but hear me out... I have been searching for the K&N FIPK everyone raves about and I found what looks to me like a cold air intakeheres the link to the K&N site http://www.knfilters.com/search/prod...Prod=57-1511-2 now is this the one everyone is talkin about? I only ask because I was under the impression you guys meant it was a round open element filter... if so (and heres where the can of worms is gonna be opened) which one will give me better performance the one linked above or the round one?

Save yourself a lot of trouble and argument and search the forum for "FIPK No More." That link is indeed the K&N FIPK.

Here's the deal: That K&N is not going to get you much cooler air than the round set-up, because it is not sealed off from pulling air from inside the engine bay. Plus, the round set-up is going to cost you about $30 give or take, while the FIPK will cost you closer to $250. But, draw your own conclusions...read the thread that I suggested and you will find everything you need to make a decision.

outstanding that is exactly what I was looking for thank you. for some reason it just wouldnt come up in the search... anyway after reading this my only question would be as far as going offroad would you guys suggest something like the K&N prefilter that wraps around the round filter or a totally different intake all together, thanx in advance for any intelligent advice

A different intake all together.

The K&N isn't bad, but you might as well go the round 14x3 route instead. Much cheaper and better. The only real alternatives to the 14x3 is a true cold air intake (like my Volant) or a ram air box. Personal preference really, they will all help, just in different ways. But they all will do the same in the end: more air = more power.

Look over the thread if you want more opinions. There were sure plenty there.

oh absolutlely I completely agree, what I meant was that I have read through the 28 pages of replys on that thread and I really want to try out this round setup that silverdodge started, however the only info I found on there at all concerning offroad was when somesaid they put it on a 800hp (what sounded like) dirt buggy. my question was should I go with the round setup and just throw one of the prefilters around it when I go wheelin, or should go a diff. route all together because of the offroadin?
