Default Trans Temp Sensor

Does anyone know what vehicle systems rely on the trans temp sensor if any?

-Overdrive lockout
-torque converter lockup

That's the only ones I can think off right off. Service manual could tell you for sure what else.

There's also a light on the gauge cluster labeled "TRANS TEMP" that will light up if it gets too warm.

I wonder if you can tap into this wire for an external aftermarket temp gauge instead of messing with the trans cooler lines and fluid fittings.

As long as you don't alter the reading with your splice, I don't see why not. Where is that wire located though?

It could possibly work, but it might use a different voltage range than an aftermarket gauge.

I have a westach guage with the dipstick sensor. Super easy install and works great. I relocated my od off swith and put the guage in the cubby hole in the dash where the switch was. Makes for a super clean factory look. I know it is not the most accurate because it is not in the hot line however it is close enough to know if the trans is getting hot! I will try to snap a few pics this weekend for you but you can get the guage and stuff from genos garage for like 75 bucks for everything

Will the temp light go off if the sensor is toast?

Do you mean, will the temp light come on if your sensor is bad? Or is your light on right now, and you hope it will go off if the sensor is toasted?
