Rebuilt Engine??
A kind of similar post to this was posted not too long ago about dropping a 410 into the 2nd gen half ton, but I have a question about a Hemi.
My truck has a lot of miles on it ('00 Dodge Ram 1500 5.9 Mag)
Recently I have had to make many repairs on the engine and different components but am also needing something with a little extra kick to it, but with a truck with great interior and exterior there isn't any reason to go buy a whole new truck.
I was wondering if a 5.7 Hemi would be compatible in my 2000 Ram or not, they are the same size engine but when I emailed customer support at Allpar and he didn't see any trouble with it other than electrical, but he never told me what I'd have to do to fix that issue either.
So would a rebuilt Hemi be a realistic choice or should I aim for something else?

Personally, I would stick with the magnum. Everybody and their mother has a hemi these days, and to my experience, it i scheaper and easier to find magnum parts/upgrades that are compatible with these trucks. Just my $.02
To me it's not about having a motor everyone has though, its about finding something that will last the longest, pump the most power, and be most efficient for what I have to do. Cost at this point isn't a huge deal, since really what I'm trying to do is price things out at this point, see what all I would have to buy and switch to make the Hemi work
well, you are looking at an electrical nightmare. YOu will need to run 2 PDCs, one for lighting and another for the engine. Unlessyou can mate 2 totally different wiring harnesses together. Not going to happen. Expect to spend about 5000 in ADDITION TO THE COST OF THE ENGINE.
It would be cheaper for you to buy a 2003 Ram with a hemi. Thats what i would do.Or you can do what everyone else on this forum does. Tweak your ram on the weekendstill it fits your compliance. i went from 10 MPG to 14.5 MPG with little add ons...and i am running 24# injectors and the mopar PCM.
Keep tweaking or trade in lad.
Oh forgot to add motor mounts, new transmission (because the hemi will eventually break your stocker), new exhaust routing, cataltic converter, new AC, tapping holes for vaccum lines, new dash gauges (all of them). Its not just a swap and drop. Just buy a thirdgen or mod what you have.

Swap would be a beast.. Tranny, Mounts, ECU, Wiring Harness, Radiator. Yea... it would be tuff.. maybe cost a bit. BUT HEY, im still doing it.. but not a Hemi.. 3.9L to a 5.9L! =D[sm=gears.gif]

Well then you need to stick with a 318 or 360, without a doubt more reliable engines.
